Most Americans approve of the House impeachment inquiry into President Trump.
CBS News and YouGov polled Americans on the impeachment inquiry into the president that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced last week. CBS News released the poll’s results on Sunday.
On the inquiry, Americans support Pelosi’s announcement 55% to 45%. Nearly the same percentage of Americans, 53%, think that the House Democrats’ impeachment push is driven mainly to hurt Trump politically in the 2020 election, not to protect U.S. interests.
Democrats largely support the impeachment inquiry 87% to 13%. Republicans largely do not support the inquiry 77% to 23%. Independents are roughly split on the issue 49% approving to 51% disapproving.
