Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said Friday that he’s not sure if he will turn the Clinton Foundation into a line of attack against his likely general election opponent, Hillary Clinton, even though the charity has repeatedly been scrutinized for its ties to foreign governments.
“I really don’t know. I really don’t know,” Trump told Fox News’ Steve Doocy upon being asked if he would focus on the foundation ahead of November.
“I mean she’s been playing the woman card and I really have to hit her on that,” he said of Clinton.
However, Trump agreed that reports about the foreign donations made to the Clinton Foundation when the Democratic front-runner was serving as secretary of state are a “bombshell” and something “people have been talking about it for a long time.”
Trump has long defended his contributions to the foundation, which totalled more than $100,000, claiming he “didn’t know … they would be using it for private aircrafts and things like that.”
“I was a businessman, and it was my obligation to get along with everybody, including the Clintons, including Democrats and liberals and Republicans and conservatives,” he told Fox News earlier this year. “As a businessman, I had an obligation to do that.”
