Newsom takes aim at Texas with pro-abortion billboard

Gov. Gavin Newsom is touting California’s abortion access with its newest campaign billboard placed in Austin, Texas.

The billboard shows a woman crouched with her arms crossed over her legs while looking at text that reads, “Need an abortion? California can help.”

In small text toward the bottom of the billboard, the Bible verse Mark 12:31 is also included, which states: “Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no greater commitment than these.”

“This is an actual billboard in Austin,” former Texas school teacher and feminist writer Roxy Szal tweeted. “California, [I love you] but please stop trolling.”

“Also, YOU DO NOT NEED TO TRAVEL OUT OF STATE TO GET AN ABORTION! Remember *abortion pills*?” Szal added.

Newsom, who is running for reelection as governor of California and has had his name considered among 2024 presidential candidates, tweeted previously that he would be placing similar billboards in “seven of the most restrictive anti-abortion states that explain how women can access care.”

The billboards direct people to abortion.ca.gov, a state website that explains the process of securing an abortion in California.

“I want people to know all around the rest of the country, and many parts of the globe, that I hope we’re your antidote to your fear, your anxiety,” Newsom said on the site.
