Ted Cruz Democratic challenger Beto O’Rourke raises $6.7 million in first quarter of 2018

Rep. Beto O’Rourke, D-Texas, has raised more than $6.7 million in the first quarter of this year in his bid to win Ted Cruz’s seat in the Senate, according to his campaign.

The most recent quarter is by far O’Rourke’s most successful, compared to his previous fundraising numbers that ranged from $1.7 million to $2.4 million. It’s also more than any other Democratic Senate candidate raised last quarter, the Texas Tribune reported.

His total fundraising number for the quarter comes from more than 141,000 contributors, another record breaking number for O’Rourke.

Cruz, O’Rourke’s Republican opponent, has not yet released his fundraising numbers from the last quarter. However, O’Rourke has outraised Cruz three out of the past four reporting periods.

Currently, Cruz is on a three-day, 12 city trip to officially launch his re-election campaign. O’Rourke plans to hold town halls in 15 cities over the next six days.
