The Woman Who Might Break the Ceiling

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s vice-presidential candidacy makes conservative women proud–and excited that the ceiling with 18 million cracks might be broken by a conservative Republican woman rather than Hillary Clinton. Palin’s life story is fascinating, and I’m excited to learn more about this strong, graceful Republican woman in the coming weeks. People magazine starts us off with “Five Things You Didn’t Know About Sarah Palin.” One anecdote:

When Palin announced to friends after 4-month-old Trig’s birth in April that he had been diagnosed with Down syndrome, she wrote them a private e-mail she shares with PEOPLE: “This new person in your life can help everyone put things in perspective and bind us together, and get everyone focused on what really matters … Those who love him will think less about self and focus less on what the world tells [us] is ‘normal’ or ‘perfect.’ ”

Oh yes, and she wears Franco Sarto boots! She’s smart, classy, and stylish.
