State Dept. classifies 88 new Clinton emails

State Department officials classified 88 of Hillary Clinton’s private emails Friday, upgrading a tenth of the latest batch to the “confidential” level.

The agency published 881 Clinton emails comprising 1,589 pages Friday evening. The batch was slightly larger than two troves released earlier this month, but left thousands of pages of emails for the final deadline, which is set for Monday.

A federal judge ordered the State Department to publish all 55,000 of pages of Clinton’s emails by Feb. 29. With three days to go until that date, the agency has only published 48,535 pages of emails.

None of the classified emails made public Friday were marked classified at the time they were written. The State Department is presently investigating whether some of Clinton’s records should have been considered classified when they passed through her private network of unsecured cell phones and tablets.
