Filipino president promises to resign if someone proves to him that God exists

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte said he will step down as president if someone can prove to him the existence of God.

While addressing a crowd at a science and technology conference, he asked for proof of “one single witness” who was able to “talk and to see God.” If given this evidence, Duterte said he would immediately resign from leading the prominently Roman Catholic country.

“Where is the logic of God there?” the 73-year-old president asked, according to the Associated Press.

Duterte has fallen under fire recently for calling God “stupid” and criticizing the biblical story of Adam and Eve, which serves as the origin of humanity for Christians, Jews, and Muslims.

“Who is this stupid God? This son of a bitch is then really stupid,” he said. “You were not involved, but now you’re stained with an original sin. What kind of a religion is that? That’s what I can’t accept, very stupid proposition.”

Amid controversy, Duterte is set to meet with the head of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines next week to discuss the issues.
