School officials are among the twelve highest paid Fairfax County employees, a list topped by a superintendent who draws more than a quarter of a million dollars annually in base salary.
Jack Dale, who heads Virginia’s largest school district, will be paid $266,292 in fiscal 2007. He is followed by County Executive Anthony Griffin, who, as of April 28, made $213,960.
Two more school officials are ranked next, Deputy Superintendent Richard Moniuszko and Chief Operating Officer Dean Tistadt, both nearing the $200,000 salary mark.
They are followed by County Attorney David Bobzien, who is paid $183,680.
Salaries for nonschool county officials are recorded by calendar year, said county spokeswoman Merni Fitzgerald, whileschool salaries were presented according to fiscal year.
Additional data, like overtime pay and benefits, is exempt from disclosure under Virginia law, she said.
“We do not have, as a policy, to pay the highest salaries,” Fitzgerald said. “We have as a policy to pay salaries that are basically median salaries in the area.”
She did, however, say that Fairfax County, with a population of more than 1 million, studies other like-sized jurisdictions across the country to help determine how much to pay its employees.
Members of the Board of Supervisors, all of whom are elected, each receive salaries of $59,000 from the county, according to Fitzgerald.
