People’s opinions of Britney Spears are definitely polarized — and the 12 citizens who heard her legal case are no exception. After beginning deliberations Friday, a California jury couldn’t agree on a verdict, and the case ended in mistrial Tuesday.
The pop star was on trial for driving without a valid California license last year. Though the charge was a misdemeanor, she faced up to six months in jail along with a $1,000 fine. (We’re guessing she was more worried about the former.) The “Womanizer” singer did not appear in court, but her father, Jamie, took the stand as a defense witness. Brit’s lawyers argued that the Louisiana native considers her home state her primary residence, so she didn’t need a California license.
On Monday, a jury foreman informed the judge that the jury was deadlocked; though the judge asked them to resume deliberating, they remained at a stalemate, with only two jurors in favor of convicting Britney.
So, does this mean we can look forward to starting this process all over again? Your tax dollars at work, people!
A-Rod moving in?
Are Madonna and Alex Rodriguez about to become neighbors? A pal of the recently divorced Yankees slugger told the New York Daily News that A-Rod is “looking aggressively” at condos in a building just two blocks away from the separated pop star’s NYC pad.
Though they continue to deny rampant rumors of a romance, “Alex is moving closer to Madonna,” another close friend of the baseball star reportedly told the paper. “I wouldn’t say they are an item, but he has a strong attraction to her.”
And, adding fuel to the fire, Madonna will most likely make NYC her primary home base after her world tour, People reports.
Despite having embraced Britain while she was Mrs. Guy Ritchie, “Madonna is a New Yorker,” an insider tells the magazine. “She will probably want to raise the kids in New York.”
So why was Her Madgesty living across the pond during the Guy years? “In a marriage there are compromises,” the source explains. “[Living in London] was one of them.” Well, she sure did seem to take to the accent.
Duchovny’s denial
Contrary to a British tabloid report, David Duchovny did not have a romantic and/or physical relationship with a tennis instructor. The Daily Mail’s allegations are “lies and deceit,” the actor’s lawyer told People.
“The stories about an alleged affair between David Duchovny and his tennis instructor, Edit Pakay, are completely false,” the attorney said.
David’s lawyer also told E! News that the woman swore in an affidavit she had not seen the “X-Files” star since November and “never had a romantic or sexual relationship [with him].”
So, it turns out you can’t believe everything you read in the British tabloids. We’re shocked, simply shocked.
