Donald Trump met with six Republican governors on Tuesday afternoon to discuss a range of issues that complicated the relationship between states and the federal government.
Those who attended the closed-door huddle at Trump Tower in downtown Manhattan included Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant.Three of the six governors present at the meeting — Fallin, Christie and Bryant — have previously endorsed Trump, while the others have been reluctant to go beyond saying they support the “Republican nominee.”Just last week, Hutchinson called Trump’s criticism of a federal judge’s Mexican heritage “antithetical to everything that is true and good about America.” Haslam has also been critical of Trump, calling his attacks against fellow Republican Gov. Susana Martinez “not helpful” shortly after the billionaire blasted the New Mexico governor during a rally last month.None of the governors present at the meeting, which ended around 3:30 p.m., stuck around to speak with reporters afterwards. The Trump campaign did not return the Washington Examiner’s request for additional details.
