GOP House leader to talk with Marjorie Taylor Greene amid calls for stronger action

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is set to have a stern discussion with Marjorie Taylor Greene following the revelation of Facebook posts and interactions with posts about violence against Democrats like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

“These comments are deeply disturbing and Leader McCarthy plans to have a conversation with the Congresswoman about them,” McCarthy spokesman Mark Bednar said in a statement.

It remains to be seen, though, whether the combative freshman Georgia Republican will face any stronger repercussions.

In 2019, McCarthy stripped then-Rep. Steve King of his committee assignments after the Iowa congressman said in an interview, “White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization — how did that language become offensive?”

Greene, on Tuesday, before news of the old comments broke, announced that she was appointed to the Education and Labor Committee, and she is also a member of the Budget Committee.

The comments and interactions prompted Democrats to renew calls for her expulsion from Congress or her resignation.

At least one Republican chimed in with disgust at Greene, too.

“She is not a Republican. There are many who claim the title of Republican and have nothing in common with our core values. They are RINOS. She is a RINO,” tweeted Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger, who was one of the most vocal Republican critics of former President Donald Trump in Congress.

The review of Talyor Greene’s Facebook account found that she liked a comment that said, “A bullet to the head would be quicker” to remove Pelosi. In another instance, Taylor Greene’s account responded to a comment about getting to hang former President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton: “Stage is being set. Players are being put in place. We must be patient. This must be done perfectly or liberal judges would let them off.”

Greene did not specifically deny that she made or interacted with the posts but said in a statement: “Over the years, I’ve had teams of people manage my pages. Many posts have been liked. Many posts have been shared. Some did not represent my views. Especially the ones that CNN is about to spread across the internet.”
