Independent Rep. Justin Amash said he intends on voting to impeach President Trump when the House votes on articles of impeachment.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi directed each of the committee heads to begin writing up articles of impeachment on Thursday based on the president’s actions in pressing Ukrainian officials to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden.
Amash, 39, who left the Republican Party in July, told CNN’s Manu Raju that he was ready to vote for articles of impeachment regarding obstruction of Congress, obstruction of justice, and abuse of power, but he added that he’d want to see the final language before making a final decision.
Michigan Rep. Justin Amash told me he’s ready to vote for three articles of impeachment: obstruction of Congress, obstruction of justice and abuse of power. He says he wants to see final language before ultimately deciding.

The Michigan representative’s willingness to vote in favor of obstruction of justice could indicate that the articles of impeachment include actions predating the Ukrainian controversy, while one top Democrat has supported that as well.
During Robert Mueller’s two-year investigation into whether Trump or any member of his campaign knowingly conspired with Russia, the special counsel laid out 10 instances in which Trump may have committed obstruction of justice. Mueller did not indicate if the president obstructed justice following a long-standing Department of Justice guideline which states that a sitting president cannot be indicted.
