Uvalde residents blast city council response to leaked security footage

Residents of Uvalde, Texas, blasted the city council over its response to leaked surveillance footage from the school shooting in the town in May.

UVALDE SHOOTING: VIDEO SHOWS GUNMAN ENTERING SCHOOL AND OPENING FIRE, POLICE RESPONSE

The residents slammed the council for focusing on the leak itself rather than the video, which showed the delayed police response to the shooting at Robb Elementary School in May.

“Rather than attacking the media, y’all should be attacking those cops,” said one resident during the city council meeting Tuesday.

During the meeting, council members, along with Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin, slammed the media for releasing footage from the school’s surveillance cameras from the day of the shooting.

“Two-thirds of the family or part of their families are in Washington, D.C., now, and they’re going to have to turn on the TV and see that tonight,” McLaughlin said.

The footage was planned to be shown to members of the community Sunday, along with a preliminary report on the Texas House committee’s investigation, before being released to the public shortly after. The surveillance footage was obtained and released by the Austin American-Statesman on Tuesday.

The video shows the gunman entering the school, followed by police about three minutes later. The footage then shows police officers waiting over an hour before breaching the classroom door and confronting the shooter.
