Fashion for the prudent: Shop Hop for fall fashion

For once, it’s the latest fashions on sale, not the outdated, stretched-out throwaways.

The first ever Shop Hop promises an atypical night outside of the house with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, mini-makeovers from Cover Girl Cosmetics and 20 percent discounts off the new fall lines before they even reach store shelves.

“We felt that the night needed to happen because so many events offer last season’s merchandise at discounts — no one ever gives discounts on new merchandise,” said Claudia Meyers, publisher of Style magazine and PaperDoll. “The night is a really unique experience that women can enjoy with friends. They can get out and feel like they’re seeing something for the first time. The clothes aren’t picked over or old news.”

Shop Hop is presented by Style and PaperDoll’s publisher, Alter Communications.

At Shop Hop, look out for the fall trends: ultraglamorous cocktail rings, jewel tones — especially rich purples — oversized sweaters, and bold tribal and floral prints.

Hoping to wake your inner fashionista, more than 15 of Maryland’s finest and funkiest boutiques will be on hand, including two new Baltimore stores, Azura Boutique and the mother-daughter owned Whimsy&Reason.

Whimsy&Reason’s Jennifer Solomon looks forward to representing Federal Hill and “meeting all these wonderful boutiques I’ve heard about. And I’m excited to look around for myself and do a little shopping.”

A portion of ticket sale proceeds will help fund Baltimore Outreach Services, a nonprofit organization that provides homeless women substance abuse treatment, classes in life skills, a plan for securing housing and job training. One of BOS’ job training programs will provide the hors d’oeuvres for Shop Hop.

Under  BOS Chef Connie Crabtree, women in the culinary arts program learn the ins and outs of a commercial kitchen and intern off-site two days a week at local restaurants throughout Baltimore.
