How do you know that something Obama said is truly indefensible? When Republican Leader John Boehner attacks it and Center for American Progress president John Podesta can’t defend it.
Last week, President Obama urged Latinos to go to the polls in order to “punish” their “enemies.” The line hasn’t been received too well.
“Mr. President, there’s a word for people who have the audacity to speak up in defense of freedom, the Constitution and the values of limited government that made our country great,” Mr. Boehner is set to tell an audience to tell an audience in Cincinnati tonight. “We don’t call them ‘enemies.’ We call them patriots.”
“That was a poor choice of words,” Podesta said on CNBC
Jon Stewart: “We live in hard times, not end times. And we can have animus and not be enemies.”
Stewart’s line wasn’t an explicit criticism of Obama, but the fact that the liberal Daily Show comedian is now showing greater magnanimity toward his political opponents than the president of the United States is showing his opponents says something about how far Obama has fallen away from his post-racial, post-partisan rhetoric that there aren’t red states/blue states or a black America/white America–but simply the United States of America.
