Mike Pence urges Northern Virginia voters to ‘be confident’ on Election Day

FAIRFAX, Va. — Republican VP nominee Mike Pence urged Donald Trump supporters in Northern Virginia to “be confident” about their chances in Tuesday’s election.

Pence drew hundreds of people and an overflow crowd at George Mason University’s campus for a Saturday night rally.

“Virginia we got work to do. We have three days to go,” Pence said. “Remember: Vote with a friend, tell somebody especially our closest friends, and be confident. Be confident as we go forward.”

He continued, “I truly do believe with all of my heart, if we do all that we need to do, I’ll make you a promise: That man is ready, this team’s ready, this movement is obviously ready. If you go out and make sure that Virginia is ready we will elect Donald Trump to be the 45th president of the United States of America.”

While Pence addressed the crowd at his rally, his wife Karen Pence spoke to the crowd waiting in the halls outside.

Both Pence and Trump added campaign stops in Virginia for the final days of the campaign, even as most polling in Virginia has consistently shown Clinton keeping a single-digit percentage point lead on Trump.

But recent statewide elections in Virginia have been closer than expected, including former Republican National Committee chairman Ed Gillespie’s narrow loss to incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Warner in 2014. Warner led the Senate race by approximately 9 percentage points in pre-election surveys, but Gillespie lost the race by just 0.8 percent of the total vote.

Gillespie opened for Pence on Saturday night in Northern Virginia where the Indiana governor again urged anti-Trump Republicans to “come home” and support the GOP nominee. The Trump-Pence team has hopes of duplicating Gillespie’s late surge in time for Tuesday.
