DC teen fatally shot playing with gun with friend

WASHINGTON (AP) — Police and family members say a 13-year-old District of Columbia boy who was fatally shot was in his best friend’s home when a loaded handgun they were playing with went off.

Tyrin Caldwell died Wednesday after a bullet hit him in the chest at an apartment on Downing Street in Northeast Washington.

His father, 31-year-old Tyrone Celey, says he believes the shooting was an accident and doesn’t want any charges to be filed against Tyrin’s best friend, a 14-year-old, who was placed in police custody immediately following the shooting.

Police say they haven’t ruled out filing charges and are still investigating.
