Twitter will not reinstate former President Donald Trump. The decision was made independent of Facebook’s Oversight Board, which announced on Wednesday that he will remain suspended.
There have been “no changes” regarding Trump’s permanent suspension, Twitter CFO Ned Segal said Tuesday. Facebook’s Oversight Board announced on Wednesday that the former president will not be allowed back on the platform.

“Well, there has been no changes to anything we have shared in the past around the former president’s account,” Segal said.
“When you step back and think about our policies, we want to work hard to be consistent, to be transparent so people know exactly what to expect from us,” he added. “We don’t have an oversight board like that. Our team is accountable for the decisions that we make.”
Trump was suspended from both platforms following the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, the day some of his supporters sought to prevent Congress from certifying President Joe Biden’s election victory.
While the Oversight Board upheld Facebook’s decision to restrict his platform on Wednesday, it said it wasn’t “appropriate” for the platform to “imposes the indeterminate and standard less penalty of indefinite suspension,” and the board said it needs to complete a “review” within six months.
At the time Twitter initially banned Trump, it said the decision was made following a “close review of recent tweets from” the president’s personal account and blog post. The suspension was “due to the risk of further incitement of violence,” it said.

The platforms’ decisions were supported by Democrats and liberal activists who said Trump had been allowed to amplify disinformation and cast doubt on his 2020 presidential election loss, which is a violation of Facebook’s content moderation rules, while many Republicans and conservatives characterized the move as censorship.
Trump announced a platform Tuesday called “From the Desk of Donald J. Trump,” which provides his supporters with a way to access a spin-off version of his Twitter feed. Platform users are not able to comment or interact with his posts.
