New York Rep. Max Rose filed the necessary paperwork to run for mayor of New York City, according to records from the city’s Campaign Finance Board.
Rose, a one-time Democratic congressman who represented Staten Island, filed paperwork with the New York City Campaign Finance Board on Thursday, which will allow him time to access the city’s lavish public financing system should he choose to run.
Rose, who lost his seat to New York Republican Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis in November, has long been rumored to be a potential candidate, and his viral anti-de Blasio ad called the failed 2020 presidential candidate the “worst mayor in the history of New York City.”
Rose repeatedly denied his desire to run for mayor in the run-up to his loss in November but made open overtures about his interest in the weeks since. He teased a reveal on Thursday evening.
