Elderly shoppers surprised when anonymous donor pays for $5,000 worth of groceries

An anonymous donor in Massachusetts paid for thousands of dollars worth of groceries for the elderly and shoppers with compromising medical conditions over the weekend.

The donation foot the bill for all purchases made between 6 and 7:30 a.m. at the Stop & Shop in Provincetown and totaled $5,000, according to Boston 25 News.

Like many stores across the country, Stop & Shop has designated early hours for older people or others at higher risk of complications from the coronavirus.

“It was a pleasant surprise, especially with Easter tomorrow,” said Christian Charette, who benefited from the donation. “We are so grateful to this person for their gifts.”

The anonymous donor wanted to do something to honor the men and women working in the store, a manager told the station.

“The shopper was very thankful to our Provincetown team for being on the front lines and keeping our communities fed. We are grateful to have such caring customers and associates,” the manager said. “Their commitment inspires us every day!”
