A Georgia woman wrote “I could not ask for better children” on social media before police say she shot them and turned the gun on herself.
The three bodies were discovered Wednesday evening in a lavish suburban Atlanta townhouse after police initiated a welfare check. Authorities believe that Marsha Edwards, 58, shot and killed her 20-year-old daughter Erin Edwards and 24-year-old son Christopher Edwards before fatally shooting herself.
Marsha Edwards had posted a number of photos of herself smiling alongside her kids. The family had been traveling in the weeks leading up to the deaths, Marsha Edwards’ Instagram account showed.
In one post, she wrote, “I’ve had the best summer, first with Chis in Miami, and Erin in Italy. I could not ask for better children.”

The daughter, Erin Edwards, was about to enter her senior year at Boston University and had interned at the web desk of NBC 4 New York this summer.
“She had infectious enthusiasm and a true passion for journalism, and even more important was [a] genuinely good and kind person who will be sorely missed by everyone at NBC New York,” the news outlet said on its website.
The son, Christopher Edwards, was working at the Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Film and Entertainment as a digital content manager. He had attended the National Association of Black Journalists’ annual conference in Miami two weeks before the tragic deaths. All three were members of the organization.
Dorothy Tucker, president of the National Association of Black Journalists, issued a statement over Twitter mourning the family’s death.
“The #NABJ family has lost three of our own. Our prayers and thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues of Marsha Edwards, Christopher Edwards II and Erin Edwards. This tragedy has claimed the lives of three members, but touches countless more,” Tucker said.

Marsha Edwards led an incredibly public life and frequently shared moments with her family on social media. A friend told 11Alive that she was kind, gentle, and a happy person.
She also appeared to be well-loved by her two children who wrote on a birthday card, “You are the best mother we could’ve asked for.”
“We wouldn’t be as successful without your love and support,” they added.
According to her LinkedIn page, she ran her own company, MME Enterprises, and worked as a surgical and medical equipment distributor. She described her company as “the premier surgical and medical equipment supplier, provides state of the art, FDA approved durable medical equipment to medical professionals and medical establishments in the Southeastern region.”
Marsha Edwards was also honored in April of this year by Women Works Media Group for being one of Atlanta’s 100 most powerful and influential women. Her daughter, took to Facebook to acknowledge her mother’s accomplishment, hailing her as “the best mother of all time.”
“As the owner and operator of a growing small business, a public servant, community leader, the hardest working person I know, and the best mother of all time, Dr. Edwards is more than deserving of this recognition. Please join me in congratulating her on this honor!” Erin Edwards wrote.
After the ceremony, Marsha Edwards herself wrote of the honor, “So proud to be honored by Women Works Media Group today. I can only hope that I have thus far been able if to have just made a ‘crack in the glass ceiling.'”
Marsha Edwards is the ex-wife of prominent Atlanta surgeon and civic leader Dr. Christopher Edwards. He is the chairman of the board of commissioners for the Atlanta Housing Authority and is on the board of trustees for Morehouse School of Medicine. He is the father of both children.
“Dr. Edwards, his extended family and friends are in a state of grief and shock, and privacy of the family is paramount as arrangements are being made,” a representative for Edwards said.
Police have not released a suspected motive for the killings.
