Three people, including gunman, killed in shooting at Missouri high school

Three people, including the shooter, died and at least six more were injured after a gunman opened fire at a school in Missouri, according to law enforcement.

The shooting occurred at the Central Visual and Performing Arts High School in St. Louis, with the shooter “quickly stopped” by police, the school said on social media. Police said the gunman was taken into custody and transported to the hospital, where he and two victims later died, and have asked the public to avoid the area of South Kingshighway Boulevard from Southwest Avenue to Arsenal Avenue until further notice as they conduct an investigation.

“The officers began to clear the building, looking for the shooter,” St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department Commissioner Michael Sack said in a press briefing. “Upon hearing gunfire, they ran to that gunfire, located the shooter, and engaged that shooter in an exchange of gunfire. The suspect was struck and transported from this location, and the suspect has since been pronounced deceased.”

Several people have been either injured from the shooting or hospitalized, with two others in addition to the shooter, a woman and a teenage girl, dying from their injuries. The injuries of the other victims include gunshot wounds and shrapnel injuries, Sack said.

Police have found what is believed to have been the suspect’s vehicle, which police will be going through, Sack said.

As of late Monday morning, the scene of the shooting is secure, and there is no active threat, according to police.
