Anthony Scaramucci says he ‘buried the hatchet’ with ex-boss John Kelly

Anthony Scaramucci says he “buried the hatchet” with John Kelly, the former White House chief of staff who fired him after 11 tumultuous days as communications director.

Scaramucci said that he apologized to the retired general and the two met for lunch on Thursday.

“I called him, I apologized — look, I had, you know, a miscue and it was a fireable offense, and, you know, we, we had a good spirited conversation,” Scaramucci told CNN Tuesday night.

As one of his first acts after making the jump from leading the Department of Homeland Security to the West Wing in the summer of 2017, Kelly fired Scaramucci after he made comments about the inner workings of the White House to reporter Ryan Lizza, who was with the New Yorker at the time. That included a vulgar outburst against then-White house chief of staff Reince Priebus and former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon.

“Anthony Scaramucci will be leaving his role as White House Communications Director,” White House press secretary Sarah Sanders announced back in the summer of 2017. “Mr. Scaramucci felt it was best to give chief of staff John Kelly a clean slate and the ability to build his own team. We wish him all the best.”

Kelly resigned as chief of staff and left his post at the end of 2018, after which Trump named Mick Mulvaney as the acting White House chief of staff.
