Conservatives roast American Airlines for ‘flier suppression’ after company explains adults must show ID when flying

American Airlines was mocked as perpetuating “flier suppression” after explaining customers 18 years old and older must show an ID at the airport, a statement that comes as corporations slam voter integrity bills that tighten ID requirements as racist.

“How will people of color be able to get ID and fly? ID requirements are racist!” conservative attorney Harmeet Dhillon tweeted.

Her tweet came in response to the Texas-based airline saying: “Adults 18 and over are required to show identification at the airport.”

Corporations across the country have denounced voting integrity measures in states such as Texas and Georgia.

WHY ALL THE LIES ABOUT GEORGIA’S NEW VOTING LAW?

Texas Republicans recently introduced election bills, including Senate Bill 7, which would prohibit drive-thru voting and would prohibit local election officials from encouraging voters to use vote-by-mail applications.

American Airlines hit back at the bill, which passed the state Senate last week, saying the company is “strongly opposed” to it.

“To make American’s stance clear: We are strongly opposed to this bill and others like it. As a Texas-based business, we must stand up for the rights of our team members and customers who call Texas home, and honor the sacrifices made by generations of Americans to protect and expand the right to vote,” the statement said.

Corporations such as Coca-Cola and Delta Air Lines have also been among the chorus of outrage against a similar new law in Georgia that includes a photo ID requirement when voting absentee.

“I need to make it crystal clear that the final bill is unacceptable and does not match Delta’s values,” Delta CEO Ed Bastian said in a statement to employees. “After having time to now fully understand all that is in the bill, coupled with discussions with leaders and employees in the Black community, it’s evident that the bill includes provisions that will make it harder for many underrepresented voters, particularly Black voters, to exercise their constitutional right to elect their representatives. That is wrong.”

Social media commenters mocked American Airlines over its ID requirement comment, lampooning it as “racist” in light of similar accusations against voting requirements.

Former President Donald Trump recently slammed corporations that spoke out against Georgia’s voting integrity bill, calling for a boycott of companies such as Coca-Cola, Merck, and MLB.

“For years the Radical Left Democrats have played dirty by boycotting products when anything from that company is done or stated in any way that offends them. Now they are going big time with WOKE CANCEL CULTURE and our sacred elections. It is finally time for Republicans and Conservatives to fight back — we have more people than they do — by far! Boycott Major League Baseball, Coca-Cola, Delta Airlines, JPMorgan Chase, ViacomCBS, Citigroup, Cisco, UPS, and Merck. Don’t go back to their products until they relent,” he wrote in a statement on Saturday.

President Joe Biden, meanwhile, has slammed Georgia’s new law, calling it an “atrocity.”

“It’s an atrocity,” Biden told reporters last month. “If you want any indication that it has nothing to do with fairness, nothing to do with decency, they passed a law saying you can’t provide water to people standing in line while they’re waiting to vote. You don’t need anything else to know that this is nothing but punitive, designed to keep people from voting. You can’t provide water for people about to vote. Give me a break.”
