Woman taken into custody after shooting near San Diego marathon

San Diego County Police have taken a woman into custody who was suspected of a shooting during a local marathon Sunday morning.

The woman was spotted firing several shots from a parking garage Sunday afternoon near a crowded street were thousands of runners and bystanders had gathered for the annual Rock n’ Roll San Diego Marathon, police said.

“The active shooter … is in custody,” the San Diego Police Department tweeted early Sunday afternoon local time. “There’s no longer a threat to the community. The scene is secure. Rock and Roll Marathon has resumed.”

Local law enforcement have confirmed to NBC News that a woman who was spotted with an airsoft gun on the eighth story of a nearby parking garage was hospitalized for a self-inflicted wound Sunday afternoon.

An officer was also transported to the hospital after he shot himself accidentally during the incident. No other injuries or fatalities were reported.
