A man found dead outside the Russian Embassy in Berlin is suspected to be a spy for the Russian Federal Security Service, or the FSB.
Kirill Zhalo, 35, was found dead outside the Russian Embassy on Oct. 19 by German guards protecting the diplomatic site. Zhalo fell to his death, although no cause of death has been filed, German newspapers reported. He has been identified as the son of Lt. Gen. Alexei Zhalo, a prominent officer in Russia’s FSB. Kirill Zhalo’s body was repatriated to Russia.

The Russian Embassy described Zhalo’s death as a “tragic” incident but declined to comment further for “ethical reasons.”
Berlin police declined to comment on Zhalo’s death and directed all questions to public prosecutors, who have neither confirmed nor denied the report.
Zhalo was removed from the diplomatic list of the German Foreign Ministry between Nov. 1 and 4, according to the Daily Mail.
Several Russian officials have mysteriously fallen from buildings after criticizing Russian leadership. In 2020, three Russian healthcare officials fell out of hospital windows for unclear reasons, although some suspect foul play.
