CNN’s Jim Acosta, who has become a controversial figure at his network over his sparring with White House officials, tied President Trump’s “fake news” attacks on the media to Hurricane Harvey.
During a news segment on the administration’s preparation for the hurricane, a category two storm that has reached the Texas coastline, Acosta said he hoped that Trump wouldn’t say anything on Twitter to undermine the press as it reports on the storm.
“Hopefully, the president won’t be tweeting about fake news as much, as many Americans will be relying on the news in order to stay safe during the storm,” said Acosta.
Trump frequently berates CNN for what he says is “unfair” coverage of his presidency. He is not known, however, to criticize weather reports.
