Dad gets more than a tie this Father?s Day at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church.
Marvin ?Doc? Cheatham, the president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People?s Baltimore City branch, will celebrate Father?s Day with St. Gregory?s during 10 a.m. service on Sunday. He?s scheduled to deliver a Father?s Day address, encouraging local men to get active in their households and neighborhoods.
“Marvin Cheatham is the main messenger of the word,” said Monsignor Damien Napela, pastor of St. Gregory since 1981. “The message is to remind the men in the Baltimore community of the role and responsibilities that fathers have in 2007. Those responsibilities are to guide, direct, discipline and of course love their children.”
Women of the church will present a tribute to the fathers in the parish, Napela said.
“We try to make the day very special for the fathers,” Napela said.
At the conclusion of the service, Cheatham will officially announce the first annual Men?s Blue Suit Health Awareness Day for Sept. 16.
St. Gregory is located at 1542 N. Gilmor St. in West Baltimore. For more information, call 410-366-3300.
