Christie rips Trump for ‘awful lack of judgment’ after dinner with white nationalist

Former New Jersey governor Chris Christie said Tuesday’s Mar-a-Lago dinner with Donald Trump, Kanye West, and white nationalist Nick Fuentes shows the former president’s “lack of judgment.”

“This is just another example of an awful lack of judgment from Donald Trump, which, combined with his past poor judgments, make him an untenable general election candidate for the Republican Party in 2024,” Christie said.

After receiving backlash for the dinner, Trump claimed he didn’t know who Fuentes was.

“This past week, Kanye West called me to have dinner at Mar-a-Lago. Shortly thereafter, he unexpectedly showed up with three of his friends, whom I knew nothing about,” he wrote on Truth Social.

Still, Christie speculated that the private meeting still served its purpose.

“He can’t stand not having attention all the time,” he argued. “And so, having someone show up at his club, even if you believe that he didn’t know who Nick Fuentes was, and want to sit with him feeds the hunger he feels for the attention he’s missing since he left the presidency.”

Christie, who is considering a second presidential bid against Trump in 2024 after losing in 2016, wasn’t the only one to question Trump’s decision.

“This is a f***ing nightmare,” a longtime Trump adviser said, according to reports. “If people are looking at [Florida Gov. Ron] DeSantis to run against Trump, here’s another reason why.”

Other advisers described it as “horrible” and “totally awful.”

“Tell me who your friends are, and I will tell you who you are,” Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) tweeted in response to the dinner on Friday.

“If it was any other party, breaking bread with Nick Fuentes would be instantly disqualifying for Trump. The most extreme views have found a home in today’s MAGA Republican party,” the Democratic National Committee said in a statement.

In a video shared on social media, West, who now goes by Ye, said the former president was “really impressed” with Fuentes.

Ye called Fuentes a loyalist, unlike “Trump’s team in 2020.” Trump has not responded to the statement. The former president said the dinner was “quick and uneventful” and that he “got along great” with Ye, who reportedly brought the white nationalist as his dinner guest.
