The Daily Outrage: Pulling the plug

WHO: Internal Revenue Service

WHAT: The agency spent $10 million on “My IRS Account,” a project that would have allowed taxpayers to access their accounts online, in addition to its YouTube and iTunes sites.

WHY IT’S AN OUTRAGE: A new audit by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration found that the IRS cancelled the project just as it was about to be deployed last December. Auditors noted that the IRS had no “tangible plan” to reuse “most of the hardware and functionality” and recoup some of the expense.
