Man hit by Red Line train

Train service on the Red Line faced delays Monday evening for nearly three hours after a man was hit by a train at Friendship Heights. The man, a resident of Northwest D.C. in his 40s, was struck by an inbound train headed for Glenmont around 4 p.m. Monday, according to Metro.

He was stuck under the train and had to be pulled out by D.C. Fire and EMS crews. He remained in critical condition as of 7 p.m. Officials are still investigating the incident, but Metro spokesman Dan Stessel said they are treating it as an accident.

The station was shut down during the rescue operation and trains were passing through without stopping. All Red Line trains were also forced to share a single track between Van Ness and Medical Center stations until about 6:55 p.m. to allow crews to clean the area. – Kytja Weir
