President Trump issued a proclamation on Wednesday declaring Jan. 22, the 47th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, as National Sanctity of Human Life Day.
“Every person — the born and unborn, the poor, the downcast, the disabled, the infirm, and the elderly — has inherent value,” the White House proclamation read.
“Although each journey is different, no life is without worth or is inconsequential; the rights of all people must be defended. On National Sanctity of Human Life Day, our nation proudly and strongly reaffirms our commitment to protect the precious gift of life at every stage, from conception to natural death.”
The president also urged the nation to remain committed to protecting human life.
“As a nation, we must remain steadfastly dedicated to the profound truth that all life is a gift from God, who endows every person with immeasurable worth and potential,” the statement said.
The announcement comes days before the annual March for Life is set to take place in D.C. Trump and Vice President Mike Pence have spoken at the event in the past.
The Trump administration has attempted to implement a pro-life agenda and announced in July that family planning clinics will no longer be allowed to refer women to abortion providers if they wish to receive Title X funding.
