President Trump’s approval rating sunk to 39% after the redacted version of special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia report was released last week.
A Politico/Morning Consult poll conducted from Friday through Sunday shows 39% of voters approve of Trump — tying Trump’s previous record low in August 2017.
That benchmark came after Trump stirred controversy when he said “both sides” were responsible for deadly violence in Charlottesville, Va., when white supremacists clashed with counter-protesters at the Unite the Right rally.
According to the recent poll, 57% of voters disapprove of Trump’s performance in the Oval Office. Despite Trump’s lack of popularity, almost half of voters, 48%, do not support launching impeachment proceedings against Trump. Thirty-four percent of voters said they want to see Congress initiate impeachment proceedings, a decline from 39% in January.
Mueller’s investigation found no collusion between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin during the 2016 election. However, the report did not clear Trump of obstructing justice and has given Democrats in Congress a new reason to call for investigations into the president and his inner circle.
The poll used a sample size of 1,992 voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
