White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham defended the president’s Wednesday tweet that referred to “Never Trumper Republicans” as “human scum” during a Thursday morning appearance on Fox News.
Asked whether President Trump regretted tweeting the sharp criticism of Republicans that do not support him, Grisham responded flatly. “No. No, he shouldn’t,” she said, subsequently decrying elements of the GOP that actively work against the president.
“It is horrible that people are working against a president who is delivering results for this country and has been since day one,” Grisham also said. “They deserve strong language like that.”
Grisham, 43, was named press secretary in June after Sarah Sanders resigned from the post she had held for nearly two years. Grisham had previously served as the press secretary to first lady Melania Trump. Since Sanders’s departure, the White House has not held any press briefings, deferring more frequently to remarks made directly by Trump to the media.
“The Never Trumper Republicans, though on respirators with not many left, are in certain ways worse and more dangerous for our Country than the Do Nothing Democrats,” the president said in a Wednesday tweet. “Watch out for them, they are human scum!”
