The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee blasts Carly Fiorina today for taking Koch money (emphasis added):
Ah, the evil Koch brothers. It seems like the Democrats have really found their target. As John McCormack has written, top Democrats from Austan Goolsbee and Chris Van Hollen to Jimmy Carter and even Obama himself are doing their best to turn the Kochs into right-wing bogeymen and scare-off other potential corporate donors from funding the opposition to the Democrats. And so today the attacks on the Koch brothers continue, by saying that they support the Tea Parties, pollution, and Republican Senate candidate Carly Fiorina.
But this election cycle, Koch has given at least $30,000 to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, and the DSCC has accepted the money. (That, by the way, is the same amount given the Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee.)
Additionally, Koch PAC, the political wing of Koch Industries, has contributed at least $25,000 to Senate Democratic campaigns, and at least $60,000 to Senate Democratic PACs.
Carly Fiorina’s spokeswoman Andrea Saul responded in an email to the DSCC’s attack: “Barbara Boxer and her cronies’ hypocrisy has reached new heights in Washington, DC. Instead of lobbing baseless attacks at Carly, who is beholden to no one, Boxer and friends should start explaining to the voters of California why they have done nothing to deliver jobs to the state but rather have focused on repaying their special interests buddies for their decades of support.”
It remains to be seen whether the DSCC will return the Koch money. The DSCC didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment from THE WEEKLY STANDARD.
In other news about the Kochs and their enemies: White House spin doctor David Axelrod has an op-ed in today’s Washington Post blasting organizations such as Koch Industries for their participation in the American political process. As Ben Smith smartly notes here, this is exactly how Axelrod put bread on his table before he was in the White House.
But here’s the real question about the DSCC and Axelrod: We’re 40 days until Election Day on November 2, and all these Democrats can focus on is Koch?
