Two hospitalized after collision involving P.G. fire department vehicle

Two people were taken to a hospital after a crash involving a Prince George’s County fire department vehicle Monday night, officials said.

The volunteer chief from the District Heights Fire/EMS station was responding to an incident about 7 p.m. Monday and had his lights and audible warning devices on, authorities said. While the fire department vehicle was clearing the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Donnell Drive, a civilian vehicle collided with it, according to the Prince George’s Fire/EMS department.

A woman in the civilian vehicle was taken to a hospital with injuries to her lower extremities, officials said, and the volunteer chief was taken to the same hospital with pain and discomfort in his upper body.

Offiicals said the operator of the fire department vehicle will undergo a post-crash screening, as is standard procedure.

Both vehicles had significant damage and police are investigating.
