DETROIT (AP) — Supporters and opponents of a new international bridge linking Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, have until Aug. 9 to submit written comments.
The U.S. State Department will accept the comments by email. Residents also can view the application for the presidential permit needed to build the bridge on the federal agency’s web site.
U.S. and Canadian leaders announced an agreement last month to build the New International Trade Crossing at no cost to Michigan.
The owners of the existing Ambassador Bridge don’t want a competing bridge built and are backing a ballot proposal that would require Michigan voters’ approval before an alternative crossing could be constructed.
Gov. Rick Snyder’s administration says the agreement to build a second international bridge across the Detroit River can’t be undone by a ballot effort.
