New Michigan poll suggests Whitmer’s approval could be rising

A new Michigan poll suggested that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s job performance has improved in voters’ minds.

The WDIV/Detroit News poll sampled 600 people via phone calls to find that 56.2% said they approve of Whitmer’s job performance, with 38.7% saying they disapprove.

The poll also showed independent voters view Whitmer favorably by a margin of 49% favorable to 32.9% unfavorable.

Results indicate an improvement in how Whitmer is viewed by her constituents since fall 2021 when nearly 44% of Michiganders disapproved, according to WDIV.

Communications Director for the Michigan Republican Party Gustavo Portela took to Twitter to call the poll’s bluff.

“There’s nothing in the latest poll Whitmer should be celebrating,” Portela tweeted. “Gretchen Whitmer is not only vulnerable but on her way out.”

Portela predicted that Whitmer will still lose reelection to “a generic Republican” because she is “ridin’ with Biden,” who is “deeply unpopular.”
