Stephanie Grisham: Press briefings were ‘theater,’ reporters tried to ‘get famous’

White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham said President Trump has no plans to bring back the White House press briefings.

Grisham appeared on Fox and Friends Monday morning and spoke about potential future press briefings after Trump stopped the daily practice in March. Grisham said that the daily press briefings by the press secretary would come back when Trump decides to bring them back.

Since the daily briefings have stopped, Trump often takes questions from reporters himself, usually from the White House lawn. Grisham noted that and said Trump is “his own best spokesperson.”

“Ultimately, if the president decides that it’s something we should do, we can [bring the daily press briefings back]. Right now, he’s doing just fine,” Grisham said. “To be honest, the briefings had become a lot of theater.”

After a prompt from host Brian Kilmeade, Grisham said that reporters were using the press briefings to “get famous.”

“They are writing books now. I mean, they are all getting famous off of this presidency, and so I think it’s great what we are doing now,” Grisham said.
