Border Patrol announces new chief

Customs and Border Protection Commissioner R. Gil Kerlikowske announced Monday that Mark Morgan has been selected as new chief of the U.S. Border Patrol.

Morgan has served as the assistant director of the FBI since October, during which time he was charge of the agency’s Training Division. As Border Patrol chief he will be responsible for over 21,000 Border Patrol agents.

“Mark’s strong law enforcement and leadership credentials; Los Angeles police officer, Platt County, Mo., deputy sheriff, 20-year FBI career – including an assignment as the special agent in charge of the El Paso division – and the U.S. Marine Corps, will be of great value to the Border Patrol and CBP at large,” said Kerlikowske in a statement.

Morgan will be replacing former Chief Michael Fisher, who retired in October last year.

“It is my great privilege and honor to be selected to serve with the men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol and to lead this great organization,” said Morgan.
