The Maryland Transportation Authority is warning drivers heading across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge this afternoon to expect delays and traffic back-ups on both shores.
A tractor-trailer broke an axle while in the right lane of the westbound span. MdTA has closed both the right and center lanes while crews work to fix the axle.
As traffic heading towards the Eastern Shore has increased with the extra daylight, MdTA usually opens up one of the westbound lanes for eastbound traffic.
But during the closure, only two lanes will head east, and one will head west.
MdTA said the lanes would reopen within a couple of hours, but traffic would likely be delayed in both directions.
