VIDEO: New poll shows opposition to Tea Party growing

A new Gallup poll out Thursday shows Tea Party support has held steady at 24 percent for the past three years, but it’s still down from the 2010 midterm elections when the Tea Party exploded onto the scene.

The poll shows about one in four Americans say they are supporters of the Tea Party. While that number has held relatively steady — the number of people opposing the Tea Party has risen from 26 percent of Americans in 2010 to 31 percent in 2014.

These numbers suggest why the Tea Party had a smaller impact on Republican primaries this year and foreshadow the Tea Party having less of an impact in the forthcoming 2014 midterm elections that in previous elections.

Probably the biggest Tea Party victory this year was Dave Brat beating out former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in Virginia’s congressional primary.
