We were kind of surprised at the news that Tony Romo unceremoniously dumped Jessica Simpson the day before her birthday … but we were none too shocked to hear that the reason might have something to do with her meddling father, Joe. After all, the couple briefly split once before because the football star felt his father-in-law figure was too intrusive in their relationship.
“At one point Joe was even giving Tony football advice, which doesn’t go down well,” an insider told Fox’s Pop Tarts.
However, another source says the romance fizzled without any help from dear old Dad: “It was a long time coming; [Tony] hasn’t really been into [Jessica] and the relationship for a while, but [they] stayed together because he didn’t want to look like a jerk for not having a better reason to break it off.”
He didn’t want to look like a jerk … so he waited until the night before her birthday?
DEBBIE: NO SETTLEMENT
Did Debbie Rowe give up rights to her kids for a $4 million payout? A source close to the Jackson family told the New York Post that the mom of Michael Jackson’s older two children secretly reached an agreement to relinquish custody rights to the late star’s mother, Katherine Jackson, for that hefty sum.
“This takes away any rights she has to challenge custody at any given time,” explained the insider. “If something happens to Katherine, [Rowe] can’t challenge the next [guardian], whether that be Diana Ross or someone in the family.”
But Debbie’s lawyer issued a sternly worded open letter to the paper demanding an “immediate retraction” and declaring, “There has been no agreement reached between Ms. Rowe and the Jacksons. Ms. Rowe has not and will not give up her parental rights. No determination has been reached concerning custody or visitation.”
Will the children’s fate be resolved at Monday’s custody hearing … or will the battle drag on?
Lindsay Dissed
Lindsay Lohan typically has her pick of male — and female — companions. But there’s one hottie who reportedly rebuffed her advances: U.K. actor-comedian Russell Brand. The controversial funnyman (and notorious ladies’ man) gave LiLo the cold shoulder at Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Fourth of July White Party, according to a Brit paper.
“Russell has been on her radar for a while now but he doesn’t want anything to do with her,” a source told the U.K.’s Mirror. “It’s not like he is short of female attention anyway.”
Nor is Lindsay, for that matter — she’s been spotted lately making frequent visits to possibly on-again gal pal Samantha Ronson’s pad. So there, Russell.
The Anti-Kate
Jon Gosselin’s new girlfriend is apparently quite the party girl. In the wake of the revelation that Hailey Glassman was busted for marijuana possession in college, multiple sources have blabbed to the tabs about the 22-year-old’s wild ways.
“She’s one of those crazy party animals,” one told People magazine. “She would probably be that type of girl who would get on top of the bar and start dancing.”
Sounds like Jon went out of his way to find the total opposite of tightly wound estranged wife Kate. But if this portrait of Hailey is true, we don’t really see her being keen on playing stepmom to eight kids.
