Woman identified in fatal fall at Grand Canyon

GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. (AP) — A woman who died in a fall from a trail in the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park has been identified.

Park officials said Monday that the victim was 68-year old Rosa Torres Rios of Nogales, Ariz.

Witnesses reported seeing the woman fall over the edge at Grandview Point shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday.

Emergency responders determined that Rios had actually fallen from the Grandview Trail which departs from Grandview Point.

Her body was found some 300 feet below where she fell. Authorities say CPR was unsuccessful

The woman’s body was flown to the canyon rim by helicopter and transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office.

An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the National Park Service.
