Judiciary Democrat: Lisa Page, Bruce Ohr testimony ‘did not help Trump’

A Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee is questioning the timing of the release of the transcripts for Justice Department official Bruce Ohr and former FBI lawyer Lisa Page.

Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., reacted to President Trump tweeting Wednesday that Page’s testimony to a joint congressional task force last year shows bias in the Obama-era Justice Department against his presidential campaign.

“Today is Wednesday. That means @realDonaldTrump is making stuff up, again. Both Lisa Page & Bruce Ohr gave testimony last year to GOP controlled Judiciary Committee. Why did GOP not release the transcripts then? Because their testimony did not help Trump,” Lieu responded.

Last week, Judiciary Committee ranking member Doug Collins, R-Ga., began what he said will be a wave of transcript releases from a GOP-led investigation into possible bias in the Justice Department and FBI. Ohr caught investigators’ attention as he acted as an unofficial back channel between the FBI and the author of the so-called Trump dossier.

In releasing Ohr’s transcript, Collins noted how he and his colleagues have lost patience with the Justice Department in how slowly the agency has handled document requests, including the process of reviewing them for information that would endanger national security.

The Page transcript revealed she testified last year that officials in the bureau, including then-FBI Director James Comey, discussed Espionage Act charges against Hillary Clinton, citing “gross negligence,” but the Justice Department shut them down.
