It is no secret that President Obama and his family are huge “Hamilton” fans, and now he is urging anyone who loves both the Broadway smash musical and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton not to throw away their shot.
The Clinton campaign announced a fundraising contest yesterday that will culminate in the presumptive Democratic nominee taking one lucky supporter to see “Hamilton” with her in July.
On Sunday, Obama sent out a fundraising email for the contest with the subject line, “You can trust Michelle on this one,” referring to his wife Michelle Obama. Obama gushed about the show and its impact on his family, and he praised Clinton by referring to her as “the next president of the United States”:
Michelle calls the musical “Hamilton” the “best piece of art in any form” that she has ever seen — to put it mildly, the play is a favorite in the Obama household. We’ve seen it in New York twice, we invited the cast to the White House and I even introduced the show at the Tonys.
So believe me when I say you don’t want to miss out on this chance: Hillary and her team are putting together a very special contest, and if you add your name right now, you could get to watch “Hamilton” with the next president of the United States.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I hope you’ll enter before it’s too late.
Obama concluded the email by reminding Clinton fans that all it takes is a donation of $1 to automatically be entered into the “Hamilton” contest.
Both Clinton and Obama have expressed their love for Lin-Manuel Miranda’s rap musical about America’s first treasury secretary. Obama once even described “Hamilton” as “the only thing that Dick Cheney and I have agreed on — during my entire political career.”
