CNN executive the latest to leave amid network reorganization

The year of shake-ups at CNN continues with a report that the network’s executive vice president of programming will be the next to leave.

Michael Bass will depart by the end of the year, according to a memo from CEO Chris Licht.

“I’m writing to let you know that Michael Bass has made the decision to leave CNN at the end of this year,” the memo said. “As head of domestic programming, Michael helped create a number of new shows and overhaul legacy programs. His full list of accomplishments is too great to acknowledge in a single memo. But on the heels of the midterms, it’s worth noting that he oversaw coverage of elections, town halls and debates.”

Bass, who spent nearly a decade at CNN, previously worked at NBC and CBS.

Licht also announced recently that there would be layoffs coming at the network before the end of 2022.

The announcement of Bass’s departure is the latest in a long line of changes at CNN in recent months.

In August, Brian Stelter, host of Reliable Sources, was shown the door after almost a decade with the network.

Earlier this month, Jake Tapper’s show was canceled. He remains at CNN on the afternoon show The Lead. Don Lemon also lost his prime-time show, now hosting the network’s new morning show, which has struggled in the ratings.
