Marianne Williamson apologizes for tweeting ‘photo shopped’ image of Hitler holding Bible next to Trump

Former Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson blamed “too much coffee” for a Tuesday morning tweet that likened President Trump to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.

The spiritual author whose campaign failed to gain much traction in the 2020 primary contest said she had taken down a tweet on Tuesday which showed Trump and Hitler side-by-side, both holding a Bible.

“I just deleted a picture of Hitler that I learned was photo shopped,” Williamson tweeted. “I apologize. Too much coffee.”

The photo of Trump was taken Monday during his brief visit to St. John’s Episcopal Church, where firefighters put out a blaze over the weekend, after law enforcement cleared protesters out of the area.

There were several comparisons made online between Trump and the doctored image of Hitler holding the Bible. Fact-checking website Snopes dedicated a full page to the image and determined the image of Hitler holding a Bible is actually a “Heil Hitler” salute that had been digitally altered.

Twitter users captured the original tweet before Williamson could remove it and voiced displeasure with the former presidential candidate’s comparison of Trump to the Nazi dictator responsible for the deaths of more than six million Jews and other people.
