WATCH: Weeping Iranian officer kissed on live TV by presenter commiserating over Soleimani death

A spokesman for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps broke down on live television following the news that top Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani was killed in an airstrike.

President Trump directed U.S. forces to launch an airstrike that resulted in Soleimani’s death, citing imminent threats to harm Americans abroad. The attack, which occurred on Thursday, was also in retaliation for orchestrating “attacks on coalition bases in Iraq over the last several months,” according to a statement from the Pentagon.

Ramadan Sharif, spokesman for the IRGC, broke down in tears when he announced the news of Soleimani’s death.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has promised vengeance for the attack. “With his departure and with God’s power, his work and path will not cease, and severe revenge awaits those criminals who have tainted their filthy hands with his blood and the blood of the other martyrs of last night’s incident,” Khamenei said in a statement.
