Supreme Court will stick to teleconference format for October oral arguments

The Supreme Court will extend its coronavirus social distancing policies and hold oral arguments in October over the phone.

A statement released by the high court on Wednesday said oral arguments would resemble the format used in May, in which all nine justices heard arguments from lawyers by teleconference.

“In keeping with public health guidance in response to COVID-19, the Justices and counsel will all participate remotely. The Court building remains open for official business only and closed to the public until further notice. The Court will continue to closely monitor public health guidance in determining plans for the November and December argument sessions,” the Supreme Court said.

An audio feed of the arguments will be provided to the press, as it was in the spring, for the general public to listen.

“The oral argument audio and a transcript of the oral arguments will also be posted on the Court’s website following oral argument each day,” the statement said.
